Description

"Yugipedia" is honestly a name I tossed out only semi-seriously when we were starting to work on the fork, and Dan liked it enough to go forward with it, even registering it. However, it was always intended that we might eventually decide to change the name; this task is to determine if there's still interest in renaming and if so, what names we're interested in. It is not intended to represent an immediate or urgent need for renaming; if this happens at all, it probably won't be for a while longer yet.

Yugipedia is also the name of an existing deck builder app created by Logick LLC. That alone should be a bit of an incentive to find another name.

u/Hyperion-OMEGA actually suggested "Millennium Database" back in January. It's unique and not currently being used by anyone.

I recall there being a few names thrown around, either on Discord or Reddit; having a list of them wouldn't hurt.

I would at this point suggest getting in touch with Logick LLC to see if they would have greater interest in rebranding than we would: after all, they most definitely *aren't* aiming to be an encyclopedia.

I had already gotten in touch with them and express written (and well saved) permission to use the name a year ago.

I still very much love the name yugipedia, and any name change, would have to be without changing the URL; as things like the subreddit are all linking to it and i'm not about to ask the entire community to change yet again just because we are like 'lol new name!'

Well if we absolutely have to change names we could simply set https://yugipedia.com to redirect to the new URL so we wouldn't be too bad off on that.

Oh, definitely. There's no reason to let some squatter snatch up old names we no longer use, nor any reason to leave that SEO just lying on the table if we ever rename.

Closing as wontfix for now, though don't interpret that as meaning we've ruled out renames. Comments on the topic are also still welcome.
